When our 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with amblyopia, we immediately signed her up for Vision Therapy only to be overwhelmed by the time commitment it required. After just 6 months of therapy we are true believers! Her vision has already improved from 20/70 to 20/40, her hand eye coordination and depth perception (especially her 3D vision) has improved drastically. We are now doubly motivated to continue strengthening the communication between her brain and her eyes. Anything that helps make this task easier is a gift.
A part of her daily therapy involves eye patching. We were asked to make patches using removable translucent tape that could easily be adhered to and removed from her eyeglasses. The translucent patch blocks the vision in the patched eye while still allowing light through. Both eyes learn to work together rather than independently. Though the concept of making these patches is very simple, actually constructing them proved to be tedious and the end result less than perfect.
From this frustration, the idea of ClingPatch ® was born. ClingPatch is a pre-cut vinyl oval that covers the lens of most eyeglasses, it easily "clings" to the lens and peels off without leaving any residue. Use and re-use. If needed, it can be rinsed under tap water, dried and is as good new. We received positive feedback from our therapist and posted them on Etsy to see if anyone else was interested in using our patches. Now ClingPatch is used by vision therapy participants across the USA and Canada.
